Bellevue Botanical Garden

A Science Discovery Program for Preschoolers

Is your 3-5 year-old child interested in things that grow, fly or crawl? Designed especially for preschoolers, our 4-week program will teach kids about the many parts of a garden, from birds to bugs and lots in between.

Classes are taught by an experienced preschool science teacher. The curriculum is based on “Growing Wild” and is part of “Project Learning Tree,” a nationally recognized science program.

Each week covers a different topic.

Our next Kids in the Garden Program will take place in Spring 2018. We will offer two sessions in the spring.

Topics for each session:

Spring Session 1: Begins April 17, and concludes on May 8.

  • April 17: Senses in the Garden: What can you smell, hear, touch and see in the garden?
  • April 24: Colors and Camouflage: How do plants and animals use color to blend in or stick out?
  • May 1: Interesting Insects:  Who crawls and hops at the garden?
  • May 8:  Wiggling Worms: How are worms an important part of the garden?

Spring Session 2: Begins on May 15, and concludes on June 5.

  • May 15: Super Soils: What is in soil and what can grow in it?
  • May 22:  Surprising Seeds: Plant seeds and watch a garden grow!
  • May 29:  Beneficial Bees:  What job do bees do at the garden?
  • June 5: Beautiful Birds: Who flies through the air at the garden?

Children must be accompanied by a parent or other significant adult (grandparent, aunt/uncle, close friend, etc.). At each class we will read a story, do an art project, sing a song, eat a snack and get out into the garden!
