The Urban Meadow
The Urban Meadow features a beautiful, naturalistic design with large swaths of grasses and perennials that bring year-round interest to the front garden. The Meadow is designed to use less water and fewer chemicals and highlights native plants that provide food and shelter for pollinators, as well as ever-changing color and texture through the seasons. The Meadow also features a Mason Bee exhibit, as well as several bug snugs. Bug snugs provide habitat for birds, insects, snakes, and other wildlife. Bug snugs provide critical winter habitat and transition into nesting, feeding, and decomposition zones during warmer months.
52 volunteers from all our partner groups participated in planting this garden, which took over one month. The Urban Meadow opened in 2017 as part of the Bellevue Botanical Garden’s 25th anniversary.
